Gun Murugan makes 32.5 ft dosa in Ahmedabad

Posted on 25 Aug 2009 at 1:16am

In an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, Rajendra Prasad, protagonist of upcoming south Indian flick “Quick Gun Murugan”, made a 32.5 feet long dosa, a delicacy popular in southern parts of the country.

The attempt is also aimed at promoting the movie.

Sixteen chefs helped Prasad made the dosa at the Sankalp restaurant in Ahmedabad in less than 40 minutes.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said that by making the world’s longest dosa, he wants to promote the importance of promoting vegetarian lifestyle.

“The main subject of the “Quick Gun Murugan” is the epic battle between the vegetarian and non-vegetarian. But in this we are highlighting the importance of vegetarian in today’s time. So we wanted our vegetarian food to be into the world. So that’s why we are promoting this dosa,” said Prasad.

“Quick Gun Murugan”, the protagonist, is a cowboy fighting for the virtues of vegetarian food while the villain advocates non-vegetarian dishes. The film is a satire on the war between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food enthusiasts.

The movie is set to hit the theatres on August 28. (ANI)

New York Movie Review

From October 2003 until May 2005, I was illegally detained by the U.S. government and held in CIA-run ”black sites” with no contact with the outside world. On May 5, 2005, without explanation, my American captors removed me from my cell and cuffed, hooded, and bundled me onto a plane that delivered me to Sana’a, Yemen. I was transferred into the custody of my own government, which held me — apparently at the behest of the United States — until March 27, 2006, when I was finally released, never once having faced any terrorism-related charges. Since my release, the U.S. government has never explained why I was detained and has blocked all attempts to find out more about my detention. Mohamed Farag Bashmilah, Huffington Post. Posted February 20, 2009.

Here’s a perfect illustration of the problem that was inherent in the Bush Administration’s insistence on being able to hold terror suspects indefinitely: Benemar ”Ben” Benatta is a Muslim man with a military background who was unfortunate enough to try and seek political asylum in Canada one week before the events of 9/11. On September 11 his five year ordeal began: About a week before, Canadian officials had stopped Benatta as he entered the country from Buffalo to seek political asylum. On that Sept. 11, he was quietly transferred to a U.S. immigration lockup where a day passed before sullen FBI agents told him what the rest of the world already knew: terrorists had attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon. It slowly dawned on Benatta that his pedigree — a Muslim man with a military background — made him a target in the frenzied national dragnet that soon followed. The FBI didn’t accuse him of being a terrorist, at least not outright. But agents kept asking if he could fly an airplane. He told them he couldn’t. It made no difference. ”They gave me a feeling that I was Suspect No. 1,” he said in a recent interview. The veiled accusations and vehement denials would continue for nearly five years — despite official findings in 2001, that he had no terrorist links and in 2003 that authorities had violated his rights by colluding to keep him in custody.
The Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp is a detainment facility operated by Joint Task Force Guantanamo of the United States government since 2002 in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which is on the shore of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The detainment areas consist of three camps in the base: Camp Delta (which includes Camp Echo), Camp Iguana, and Camp X-Ray (which has been closed). The facility is often referred to as Guantanamo, or Gitmo. In 2001, President George W. Bush signed an executive order that stipulated that US military could indefinitely detain any non-citizen who he believed was involved in international terrorism.
# After the Bush administration asserted that detainees were not entitled to any of the protections of the Geneva Conventions, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld on June 29, 2006 that they were entitled to the minimal protections listed under Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions.

I'm not sexy: Katrina Kaif

I’m not sexy: Katrina Kaif

Posted on 06 Jun 2009 at 7:56am

Katrina Kaif has been voted the India’s Sexiest Woman yet again but this is one honour lovely lass is not ready to accept.

She says, “I would rather be thought of as pretty rather than sexy.”

Kat is also not bothered by men downloading pictures of her from the internet, she is not entirely comfortable with her racy image. What’s puzzling is that the lady has been covered up in most of her films and yet has been sparking men’s imagination more than those who’ve been stripping down.

“It feels good to be voted by fans and that too in such huge numbers, but I don’t think if you wear a bikini or show skin, you look sexy,” she said.

The fact that she is the most searched actress on the internet tells how popular she is. Urban men like her looks - a perfect merger of International and Indian looks. Her fans keep downloading her photos on internet in huge scale but she is not in the mood to think about it.

And who do Katrina think is the sexiest and hottest man in Bollywood?

She would surely make a good diplomat if we are to go by her answer to the question. “Only if I’m in love with a man, I find him hot,” she said.

However, the actress revealed that she finds Neil Nitin Mukesh “the cutest”.

Kareena to sport Barbie doll look in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’

Posted on 06 Jun 2009 at 7:52am

New Delhi (IANS): Kareena Kapoor’s look in “Kambakkht Ishq” is being touted as her most glamorous ever, but her make-up artist Mallika Bhat says that apart from looking ultra glam, she will also sport a “Barbie doll-look” in the action thriller.

“One of Kareena’s looks in the film is inspired by Barbie doll,” Bhat told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.

“One day, while on the shoot, she came out of her vanity van and was ready for her shot. She was wearing a baby pink tube top with a white skirt and I gave her a creamy baby pink lipstain (colour) for her lips. Her hair was straight - and as soon as I saw her, I told her how much she looked like Barbie doll,” she said.

In “Kambakkht Ishq”, which is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kareena stars alongside superstar Akshay Kumar who plays a Hollywood stuntman. It also stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.

According to Bhat, Kareena’s different looks in the film have a lot to do with the progression of her character.

“At first she has a plain Jane look, followed by a cute girl-next-door look and then she ultimately turns into an ultra-glam diva as she plays a model in the film,” she said.

Bhat said that Kareena has been made to wear minimum make-up and tied ponytails for the first part of her character, while she leaves her hair open and sports little gloss for her second look.

But later Kareena’s eyes are well accentuated with different colours, she added.

“For her glamorous look, I used metallic liners in colours like charcoal, blue, green, grey and played around with a lot of shimmer on her eyes. But what remained permanent for Kareena throughout the film was the creamy baby pink lip colour that I have not used on anyone yet,” Bhat said.

Bhat, who was responsible for Deepika Padukone’s Chinese looks in “Chandni Chowk To China”, says Kareena too loves slipping into the glamorous look.

“She is a girl. Like every other girl, she enjoys getting ready and so I guess she enjoyed slipping into the glamorous character. She liked to get ready for it like any other girl her age would have,” she said.

Coupled with Bhat’s make-up techniques, Mumbai-based hairstylist Pompy Hans worked on Kareena’s hair for the film.

“She has such a glamorous role in the film. I tied her hair into neat ponytails for her first look, gave her simple and straight hair for her second and then experimented with a layered haircut, a nice bouncy blow dry on her hair and even coloured her hair copper, mostly dark blonde tints for her model-like look,” Pompy told IANS.

Kareena sports fashion designer Aki Narula’s outfits in the movie.

I Akon went on & on: Katrina

Katrina Kaif is a pro at being a showstopper, be it on the ramp or elsewhere. Her act at the closing ceremony of the IPL along with Akon was high on excitement and Kat says that it was only because it was choreographed differently.
Though her team, Royal Challengers, lost to Team Hyderabad in the finals, Kat says, “You can’t have everything in life. The players were disappointed, but you can’t say much at that point. We played a very good series nonetheless.

From being the underdogs in the first season, they’ve come a long way this year. Everything was working in favour of the team. People weren’t expecting to see me there for the finals, but I was there and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, both during the matches and during the performance. I’m really very impressed with the team’s performance and I think that Anil Kumble did an amazing job.”

Kat was excited about sharing the platform with Akon. “It was great. The energy and the atmosphere in the stadium was infectious. We were all so excited. The organisers had told us (Shiamak Davar, the choreographer of the show, and Katrina) that they wanted the closing ceremony to represent the spirit of the IPL. That’s why it wasn’t very Bollywood. It was more elegant, and it was all Shiamak’s idea. He said that there’s been enough dancing and that we should do something really different. Since Jai Ho! is an anthem of sorts today, we wanted the show to capture that spirit,” says Kat.

Performing with Akon was one of the high points of the show for Kat. “We all love Akon’s music. He’s quiet and shy, but seemed really sweet. The crowd totally enjoyed our act. In fact, when we made a re-entry to bid goodbye, we kept dancing, and went on and on,” she says.

Being in the same city, did she get to meet the other Bollywood hottie, Shilpa Shetty? “No, I didn’t see her at all. I was in SA for two RC matches and I was rehearsing in Mumbai for the show,” says Katrina.
